ABSTRACT

Cancer of the nasopharynx is known to have elevated incidence rates in some countries of Africa. India and Israel show the young age peak very clearly, in the interval 15 to 19 in India and in the interval 20 to 24 in Israel. In Cuba, males show the young age peak in the interval 15 to 19 and a steeper-than-earlier rise from the interval 45 to 49. Females show peaks in the intervals 20 to 24 and 45 to 49. In West Germany, cancer of the nose, and sinuses has a higher incidence than in East Germany. Cancer of the nasopharynx has a higher incidence than in Finland, the crude rates being 0.76 in males and 0.47 in females. Cancer of the nasopharynx has a slightly higher incidence in Canada than in most countries of Europe, the crude rates being 0.63 in males and 0.28 in females. Incidence is very low, particularly in Colombia. Cases occur mostly in old ages.
