ABSTRACT

This chapter presents the protocols for multiple sleep latency and maintenance of wakefulness tests. Request the patient to fill the details in the "Pre-sleep questionnaire". Total sleep time during the night should be at least 6 hours. Get the sleep log for at least one week prior to the MSLT. Five opportunities for sleep are provided, 2 hours apart during the day. Sleep lab should be sufficiently dark and quit to promote the sleep. The temperature of the lab should be optimal. Make sure the patient's sleep is not disrupted because of any other reason, for example, going to the washroom. Sleep lab should be sufficiently dark and quit to promote sleep. The temperature of the lab should be optimal. A recording may be terminated earlier than 40 min if three consecutive epochs of N1 sleep are seen or one epoch of any other stage of sleep.
