ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses the preparations for making the steampunk train. Researching possible solutions is a great point in the rigging process to isolate complex areas, create some temporary scenes and geometry that doesn't affect the main asset, and really work with practical and elegant solutions that one can transplant and reuse, or rebuild, on the actual rig later in the rigging process. Creating hierarchies is creating the structure that supports all elements in the rigging world. The Point Helpers are pretty much the exact same thing as a Dummy object, but, they have the added advantage of being able to have a few visual display options. Pivot Points can be super-helpful, but as they are related to an object's transform, they can become a nightmare. It's often better to just align pivots to the world and move the location of the pivots to the center of the scene.
