ABSTRACT

The Norah asset gave the opportunity to create a number of technical and complex mechanical setups to complete the rig. This chapter explores some rigging methods that could be beneficial in other kinds of situations where mechanical rigs will be needed. It provides a quick look at various tips, tricks, and techniques that weren't covered during the creation of the Norah rig, but hopefully will come in handy as a helpful reference for other journeys that one may take when rigging in three dimensions. The chapter discusses creation of some basic geometry to help illustrate the rigging techniques. From there, these techniques can be applied directly to one's own mechanical creations. The first thing one needs is the geometry of the train tracks. To rig a hydraulic piston, one needs to use only a few Lookat Constraints with some Point Helpers. Being able to animate the pivot point of an object can be an extremely rewarding feature to the rigs.
