ABSTRACT

After implementing any learning intervention there needs to be a careful evaluative phase that is based on the evidence collected during the intervention. This phase has three elements. The first element is a response to the final question of the Educational Casework Process – How did the intervention support the student’s learning? The second element comprises evaluative questions focusing on the implementation of the intervention. These questions aim to specifically understand what factors within the implementation supported or impeded the effects of the intervention. This information is crucial for designing future intervention for particular students, as well as for building professional knowledge that will be used in other educational casework opportunities. The third element is a review of the practice of the learning intervention professional, a focus that is imperative for building capacity for future intervention at all layers. This chapter is thus an opportunity to draw on hindsight, by looking back at decisions made and practising professional reflection in response to the questions:

How effective was the intervention for this student’s learning? What is the next step?

What implementation factors (competence, organisation and leadership) supported or impeded the effect of the intervention?

How did my practice as a learning intervention professional support the intervention?
