ABSTRACT

This chapter shows that variety of residential and activity location models that are currently available in the literature. Population and activity location models are aimed at simulating the spatial distribution of households and companies, normally within an urban area. The chapter provides a review of the state of the art in the field of modelling the location of urban agents within a territorial system, starting with an overview of the main residential location models found in the literature. A great variety of residential location models, developed according to the needs of the various research groups involved, can be found in the relevant literature. The DRAM location model was created by Putman and began its development in the 1970s, even though it continues to be used in the present day in multiple urban areas. The DELTA model began to be developed during the 1990s by the David Simmonds Consultancy.
