ABSTRACT

In Chapter 1 we have seen that there is historical evidence that profit-sharing has been used by some managements as a counter to trade unionism in periods of labour unrest (Bristow, 1974; Ramsay, 1977). In Chapter 5 we examine the current evidence of the defensive/deterrence effect. Here we examine the policies of the broad labour and trade union movement towards profit-sharing and employee share ownership.
