ABSTRACT
The channel catfish is the most widely cultured foodfish in the U.S. Channel catfish were originally native to states within the Mississippi Valley and those along the Gulf of Mexico. However, they have been widely introduced throughout the U.S. during the last century. State and federal hatcheries have been providing channel catfish fingerlings to stock public and private waters for sport fisheries for well over 50 years.
