ABSTRACT

This chapter analyses the transitions of young women from education to either employment or reproductive work. Based on longitudinal research conducted in the Buenos Aires (Argentina) Metropolitan Area, it assesses the contribution of place, gender and class interaction in shaping women’s identities. The chapter concludes that an analysis of the sense of belonging is essential to developing affirmative and subject-centred youth policies. Additionally, the chapter argues that the expansion of known worlds by means of guaranteed access to education, employment and respect-based caring groups among young women are key elements in achieving social justice.
