ABSTRACT
Only a few new or modified detection reagents for the planar chromatography of carbohydrates have been described since the compilation of Volume I. Therefore, the list of detection reagents for paper and/or thin-layer chromatography included in that volume remains current. The list of reagents used in recent years that is presented in Section II.IV is intended to serve as a supplement to Section II.Ill in Volume I. As in liquid chromatography, the emphasis has been on the development of fluorogenic reagents for the planar chromatography of carbohydrates: in some cases, derivatization before chromatography is advantageous.
