ABSTRACT
Since the publication of Volume I there have been few advances in paper chromatography, and therefore the data included in Tables PC 1 to 5 in that volume are still representative of the results given by standard methods in current use. Only the use of ion-exchanger papers for the PC of sugars, uronic acids, and alditols, and extension of the DP range of higher oligosaccharides resolved by PC with multiple developments, are added in the present volume. For this reason a separate section on PC is not justified here, and the two new tables of PC data have, therefore, been included in Section I.IV together with Tables TLC 1 to 6, which present data obtained as a result of the considerable advances in thin-layer chromatography, particularly in the application of high-performance thin-layer chromatography (HPTLC) plates, since 1978. The name 4’planar chromatography” used in the heading to this section is thus a generic term covering both PC and TLC.
