ABSTRACT

In a Malawi case study on the interplay of state policy, family structure, and land on women and children's wellbeing, Professor Linda Semu identifies wellbeing from the perspectives of women and men in Zomba District. The chapter examines the robust information and communications technology (ICT) network in Malawi, female scholars' and activists' electronic footprint to see the extent to which their ideas engage with local and national governance. Some of the main themes in the literature that are incorporated into the conceptual framework below include: gender, mobile technology, mobile technology and health and knowledge diffusion and health. A number of other topics more squarely focused on health, gender, and food insecurity, sanitation, or commerce that do not directly address ICT. The chapter examines the impact of the factors, in addition to women's cell phone ownership, on various outcomes relevant to women.
