ABSTRACT

This chapter looks at the personalities of people in full-blown management positions, what sort of competencies they need to develop and how this development may be achieved. Some may feel that they are trapped in management because their financial commitments, or fear of the unknown, won't let them escape. It would be good if the ranks of management were filled only with those who are totally temperamentally suited to the work. This aspiration is utopian because there probably are insufficient such candidates to fill all of the existing roles. The material rewards of management make it possible for those not ideally suited to enjoy other non-work aspects of their lives. Those who have scores which fall clearly outside of the dimensions of the average manager and the high performing ones profiles are at risk of derailment or burnout at some time in their career as a manager.
