ABSTRACT

This paper deals with the design of a special involute cam and follower mechanism for a Frisbee-throwing machine. In this particular application, the problem statement was to provide a specified angular displacement to the follower. The main problem is to provide a free path to the follower when the stored energy in the spring releases the Frisbee; at that time no portion of the cam profile should be in contact with the follower. Thus, for this application a special involute cam profile has been developed, which will disengage with the follower at the rise time. There will be no contact between the cam and follower during the recess time. This special design is described in the paper.
