ABSTRACT

Sustainable development is a requirement of society. Energy saving and safe evaluation of engineering structures play a large role in this. Light-Transmitting Concrete (LTC) is a building material that has a light transmitting property due to embedded optical fiber. Light-transmitting concrete is made of optical fibers, cement, water, and sand. The main function of LTC is to use sunlight as a light source to reduce power consumption and this type of concrete is used for architectural and interior design purposes in structures. The experimental results show that LTC has good transmissive, mechanical, and self-sensing properties. Factors such as quality of fiber, fraction of fiber, and the variety of light sources that affect the optical power of LTC are studied in this paper.
