ABSTRACT

The young brain is making millions of new connections each day as the young child absorbs its environment, and a rich environment is invaluable in helping it develop quickly and fully. The human brain is the most evolved system on this planet. It is the spearhead of evolution. Brain studies are at the frontier of science and involve specialists from many different disciplines. Yet despite all that is being discovered, we are still a very long way from a full understanding of the brain. The young brain is making millions of new connections each day as the young child absorbs its environment, and a rich environment is invaluable in helping it develop quickly and fully. Studies of gifted children reveal that many of them benefitted from a rich early environment, with a diversity of stimulation. The brain can be divided into many different regions. The main parts, starting with the “oldest”, are spinal chord, brain stem, cerebellum, midbrain, and cortex.
