Legends and myths are valuable for explaining self and society. The late Joseph Campbell said so in book after book. Improper metaphors, according to Susan Sontag, can hamper perception, cloud logic, and dull sensitivity. Clearly, images that educators employ to describe the contemporary college scene have serious implications.
