Basic Propositions

I have borrowed the term "basic proposition" from Mr. A. J. Ayer, who uses it as the equivalent of the German Protokollsat{ employed by the logical positivists. I shall use it, perhaps, not in exactly the same sense in which it is used by Mr. Ayer, but I shall use it in connection with the same problems as those which have led him and the logical positivists to require such a term.
