ABSTRACT

There is a wide selection of multimedia and web authoring software to choose from and it ranges from simple children’s programs that are contained and prescriptive, to complex industry standard programs that are extremely versatile, but may require a knowledge of programming. Progression, as in all areas of education is an important consideration in choosing software. This will either result in using different software for different ages and abilities, or finding a piece of software that has progression built in through the ability to access the program on different levels. If progression is built in, students will be able to use the same program to create simple linear stories as well as more complex non-linear designs, so allowing them to develop with the software as they get older. This will particularly assist mixed ability groupings, including students with special needs, all using the same software.
