ABSTRACT
This chapter examines courtroom processes and the ways in which psychology can help us to understand how juries reach their decisions. First, the two major types of trial procedure are discussed. There follows a consideration of the factors that can be shown to influence jury decisions including the strategies used by lawyers presenting evidence and the characteristics of the jury and the defendant. Finally, the issue of child witnesses is discussed in the context of the reliability of the testimony they produce.
