ABSTRACT

In strength training it has been shown that adaptation processes of the neuromuscular system may be attributed to mechanisms based on either neuronal or muscular aspects (Sale, 1992). It is well agreed that the force capability of maximum voluntary contraction (MVC) is largely dependent on the cross sectional area of the muscle and that recruitment and fIring rate of the active motoneurons determine the rate of force development (RFD) (Enoka and Fuglevand, 1993).
