ABSTRACT
We have so far dealt with the onset of definite depressive disorders among women in Camberwell during a twelve-month period. It is also possible to consider two further types of affective disorder: definite psychiatric conditions that had lasted continuously for more than one year (i.e. chronic cases) and borderline case conditions which, although involving psychiatric symptoms, were not judged to be severe enough to be classified as cases. It must, however, be borne in mind that it was not part of our central purpose to study them and our conclusions are inevitably less secure.
