Community Prevention Efforts to Reduce the Spread of AIDS Associated With Intravenous Drug Abuse

Developing an effective vaccine to prevent the spread of the acquirec immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) is expected to take a long time, and, until a vaccine is developed, the only means to prevent the spread of AIDS is through behavior change. Therefore, persons at risk for human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection must be informed of their risk for AIDS and helped to modify behaviors that place them at risk.
