This system of age and generation groupings l1as for long formed one of three main frameworks of social organization in Labwor. TIle otllers are, today, the system of local government administration under a County Chief, which has superseded a traditional and relatively poorly developed form of clliefship (ker) in the area, and the system of kinship and marriage in which the basic units are a series of exogamous patricIans (kaka or ateker) and their constituent segments.
