As you have read through this book you have learned much about counseling and human services careers and the career search process. You began by learning about the general characteristics or qualities of people who work in the helping professions and what types of educational programs and requirements there are for the counseling and human services fields. You then had the opportunity to explore seven different work settings where counselors and human services specialists work. You learned of professional opportunities that exist for people who wish to work with and help people. You also learned about credentialing and accreditation-the importance of accreditation of academic departments and training programs, and about the value of being a credentialed provider in those fields that encourage or require credentialing.
