ABSTRACT

So far the mathematics and conceptual-logical mechanism of the Piagetian system has been analysed with reference to individual mentality. Another and more common form of criticism is concerned with the system as a whole, namely, the complaint that it is not 'scientific'. This is a serious allegation in the light of the claim of Genetic Epistemology to be a new science. Piaget is said not to have considered sufficiently large samples, to have based his conclusions on insufficient evidence and, moreover, not to have used proper sampling techniques nor subjected his results to proper statistical analysis.
