ABSTRACT
Jesse Davis is credited with being the first American to begin formal work in the vocational guidance field. In 1898, Davis was working in Detroit, Michigan, helping high school students with their educational and vocational needs, and emphasized the moral value of hard work (Zunker, 1994).
