ABSTRACT
The etymologies of many of these words are obscure: some show strange changes of meaning (dreng meant originally a long pole, mozo is said to be from the lat. musteus, belonging to must or new wine, and so fresh, young)· and they therefore bear the stamp of having been originally jocose words or slang. Such words are just the ones which were likely to spring up and ramify in a family circle.
