The morphology of comparison in English was not treated in vol VI (see vol VI 14.1, 19.9), apart from that of compound adjectives in -ed (vol VI 24.18), partly for reasons of space, partly because morphology and syntax (the question of comparison by means of the endings -er and -est or by means of more and most) are closely interwoven.
