ABSTRACT

Some years ago, I described my personal quest for a sound theoretical framework to guide my work as an art therapist, by saying that I, like my chosen field, had been shopping for a theory. Each time I looked for a ”goodness of fit,” wondering whether I had at last found the ”right” theoretical framework for therapeutic growth in and through art. At first, I worked with people on a largely intuitive basis. Later, I looked for ways to understand what was going on and ideas about how best to proceed.
