ABSTRACT

The psychodynamic psychologies imply that unseen motives drive psychological states, that unconscious conflicts and dramas power our psychological lives. Of course, these unconscious patterns are learned in a very broad sense. But implicit in the psychodynamic psychologies is the idea that the fundamental forces beneath human psychology are the same for all of us. The particulars of each individual shape these forces so they appear as different psychological styles and issues, but essentially the same types of things motivate everyone.
