ABSTRACT
There is a whole range of information and communications technology (ICT). You are likely to be familiar with the more traditional ones (e.g. radio, television, video), and have probably experienced them as part of your own education. This chapter is concerned solely with computer-related ICT. The computer, by virtue of its multifunctional capacities, stands apart from these others. It can be used for writing, reading, viewing, listening, drawing, speaking, thinking, searching and modelling. It is both an educational resource: a provider of information and understanding, and a tool for education: supporting the learning process by promoting thinking, reflection and the organisation of information. Its usefulness in the school curriculum extends to all subjects, including RE, and to all teachers.
