ABSTRACT

The organisation of a book about teaching, which considers assessment in a separate chapter, and that towards the end of the book, could in itself send out an incorrect message. For it is fundamental that if assessment is to be used successfully by the classroom teacher, it must be integrated within the whole process of planning. The wellworn maxim that ‘effective assessment depends on effective planning’ is as true as ever. Consequently, the way in which you provide feedback to your pupils and both record and report on their progress, will be very much related to the clarity of your teaching and learning objectives, together with you choice of learning experiences.
