chapter  7
Media audiences
Pages 40

Different types of audience In one sense everyone is part of the audience in that we are all, to some degree or other, exposed to media texts. However, it can sometimes be difficult to stand back and think about the different ways in which our daily lives interact with the media. It is well worth considering the extent to which, in an average day, we will be part of many different audiences for a wide range of media (see website activities I.1 and I.2 in the Introduction). This may include being part of a radio audience in the morning as we get ready for college, school or work, watching breakfast television or reading the newspaper, listening to music on an MP3 player, logging on to read our emails and surf the web, sharing photos or texting friends on our mobile phones, or glimpsing advertising hoardings as we travel to school, college or work.
