ABSTRACT

This chapter examines where and how the National Curriculum, in England, provides greater emphasis and coherence to cross-curricular learning. It details the personal, learning and thinking skills. The chapter focuses on curriculum dimensions. The National Curriculum in England sets out an entitlement to learning for all the pupils, the content of what is to be taught as well as targets for learning. For design and technology its introduction has been a key factor in the development of the subject and its standing alongside other areas of the curriculum. The National Curriculum in England also has an emphasis on cross-curricular learning for all subjects. For example, it identifies themed learning. All secondary schools in England are required to provide enterprise education as it is seen as being valuable in raising aspirations and developing skills for further education and the employment.
