ABSTRACT
A member of the Malayo-Polynesian branch of Austronesian family, and native to central and southern Luzon, Tagalog has spread far beyond its original confines, and now forms the basis for Filipino, the official language of the Philippines. It is spoken, either as mother tongue or as second language, by as many as 50 million people.
