ABSTRACT

In statically determinate adaptive structures, since only some of the nodal deflection components can be controlled, the sensors are used to monitor the changes in these components. The observed response components are identified by their labels in the list of nodal deflections. The linearized incremental excitation-response relations for N node, M element structure with a number of element forces per element, e number of deflection degrees of freedom per node, b number of nodal deflection constraints, and f number of zeroed element forces. One criterion for the placement problem may be the minimum deformation inducement by the actuators to compensate the disturbances. The measurement of the disturbances, and the computation of controls to compensate them, may be placed in a control loop. The actuator placement problem is closely related with the energy requirement to drive the actuators.
