ABSTRACT

Many people have asked me how I manage to cope with my vastly altered circumstances. My fundamental answer is, “You just do.” One just does. Everybody, at one time or another, is confronted with difficult situations which they didn’t choose but have to work through. There is usually no “magic bullet,” indeed no magic at all. This is certainly the case with me. Like a recovering alcoholic, I take one day at a time. And some days, and some weeks, are a whole lot better than others. I don’t possess any great secret nor a remarkable degree of inner strength or courage. So, how do I cope? Like everyone else, I just do.
