ABSTRACT

Most interestingly, people do not consider poisoning following ingestion of animals, when asked about toxic animals. This book deals exclusively with venomous and poisonous animals of medical importance. The book may be used by medical staff facing a given case in their emergency unit, giving them a concise overview about what they have to face and how to manage it. It is also interest for all those scientists, using animal venoms and poisons as a source for their investigational work or as tools to resolve particular problems in their own research work, providing them all the basic knowledge necessary for the knowledge of the "life behind" the substances used. Toxinology may not be dealt with without some knowledge of toxicology, which is the science of the harmful interactions between chemical substances and biological systems. Most knowledge on animal venoms and poisons has been accumulated by using experimental models and laboratory animals currently used in research institutes.
