ABSTRACT

We are social beings who spend most of our time interacting with others within the family, at work, and in various leisure and social activities. Almost every time we meet someone, we form an impression of that person. We may find him or her friendly or unfriendly, aggressive or timid, clever or unintelligent. We generally form these impressions of others very rapidly, and often we do not really know why our immediate impressions are positive or negative. Since people generally have little conscious awareness of what determines their feelings towards others, it is necessary to devise ingenious experiments to shed light on the mysteries of social perception.
