ABSTRACT
The final cancellation of registration in MAR as a result of a sale to a foreign entity may only be effected after the vessel has been registered under the flag of that country. A shipowner must therefore provide MAR with the new name of the vessel, if applicable, the new port of registry and evidence of registration before deregistration will be permitted (Article 33).
