ABSTRACT
Removal or resignation of the Resident Agent must be accompanied by the giving of at least 15 days’ notice in writing to the Registrar and to any registered mortgagee.

Types of company
19.7 Since 1 May 2004, the intended owner of a Maltese registered vessel has the option of using two alternative types of Maltese company as an ownership vehicle, in addition to the possibility of using a company incorporated outside Malta. The two Maltese options are now as follows:
1. a limited liability company (public or private) or commercial partnership incorporated under the Companies Act 1995 (as amended). For the sake of brevity we will consider the most common type of Companies Act company used for shipping purposes, the private limited liability company;
2. a ‘‘Shipping Organisation’’, a new type of company brought into being by the Merchant Shipping (Shipping Organisations-Private Companies) Regulations, 2004. These will be referred to in this chapter as ‘‘the Regulations’’.
