ABSTRACT
Baptism provides a wonderful opportunity for pastoral care for the family. The pastor can visit the family prior to the service and affirm with them their dreams for the child.
This kind of visit also lets the child begin to know the minister and to be comfortable with her (or him): to hear her voice, to feel her touch, to smell her breath. Then when the minister holds the baby for the baptism, she will not be a stranger.
