ABSTRACT

This chapter describes the effects of a school-based intervention program against bully-victim problems in Norwegian schools. Bullying in schools has received great attention in Scandinavia. Bullying is characterized by an asymmetric power relationship, in which the victim is being harassed, and exposed, repeatedly and over time, to negative actions by the bully or bullies. The victim has difficulty defending himself or herself and is somewhat helpless. The intervention program has proven to be effective, with marked reductions, by 50% or more, in bully-victim problems; it is now being implemented in a number of other countries.
