ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on research domains that have received some taxometric attention and identifies constructs that represent especially promising subjects for new taxometric research, either because they are particularly pressing or because they have yielded ambiguous findings to date. It proposes several new research domains that might benefit from taxometric investigation, including constructs within those domains that represent broad new vistas for taxometric research. The chapter examines several research questions with significant theoretical value that can be addressed or substantially informed by taxometric research. It considers several aspects of the method that require further investigation and questions that future Monte Carlo studies of taxometric procedures might usefully consider. The chapter cultivates a sense of the considerable promise borne by taxometric research, as well as a sense of the important work that remains to be done. One other area in which taxometric research is greatly needed concerns vulnerability factors for mental disorders.
