ABSTRACT

The present chapter delineates efforts to deal with human rights problems within countries in Africa, the Americas, Asia, the Middle East, and the Pacific — mostly developing or Third World countries. 1 A comparison of approaches followed by each of more than 100 countries in those regions is beyond the scope of the present volume. Since regional intergovernmental organizations are quite prominent in handling human rights, they serve as the focus of attention.
