ABSTRACT
The editors of this volume have asked for an explanation of the principal influences that have been formative vis-à-vis my work as a scientist-practitioner. Although this may seem a formidable task, it is, for me, fairly simple and straightforward. These influences are tangible and obvious to me and are quite easy to recount. I trust that they will shed light on the odyssey that I have experienced.
