Pages 16

The rationale for the particular research thrust that guides this discussion is perhaps best explained by the observation that while more recent formulations on the etiology of female alcoholism have been illuminating, relatively little is known about the nature of earliest familial relationships or about differences in the alcoholic womens early relationships with cach parent. Moreover, because themes set forth in the psychological literature on women and alcoholism have affirmed the critical role of the family of origin in personality development, consideration of these issues is clearly pertinent.
