Inner Lessons in Self-Advocacy

Nothing pleases an alter as much as collaborating with the host in selfadvocacy. Typically, there is at least one alter who expresses needs in a hostile, heavy-handed, or explosive manner, and a host who, anxious about the possible consequences of confrontation, is not forceful enough in making needs known. Among the most satisfying moments in therapy for client and alike are those moments in which the host and alter discuss their needs and collaborate in obtaining and implementing inner guidance about learning to speak up and take a stand.
