Working Through Trauma: Sharing Memories and Internally Challenging the Authority of the Abuser
Successful completion of Stage 1 reflects the mobilization of essential resources that help prepare the client to effectively challenge the power of
the abuser. As the client enters Stage 2, the personality system has learned to communicate productively and to cooperate in pursuing shared goals. The personalities have learned to trust and support one another. They have experienced co-consciousness. They've witnessed the fruits of their collaboration: less frequent episodes of amnesia and suicidal ideation, decreased internal conflict, better planning for managing the vicissitudes of life, and a greater sense of control. They've come a long way in dismamling the dissociative barriers between themselves.
